Zuned Out

There is no question that Apple’s iPod has been considered a success ever since it hit the market. However, though it may seam hard to believe, there are people who do not prefer the iPod’s features and layout. There are also customers out there who refuse to purchase anything from Apple, as its technological differences from Microsoft products are not always favored. But if not the iPod, what other options are out there?

Microsoft’s Zune is no doubt an alternative, as it has relatively similar capabilities in addition to a few more features that may make it a bit more intriguing. To start, the Zune does come with 30 gigabytes of storage capacity. This amount is enough to hold about 7,500 MP3 files and gives the user enough flexibility if photos and videos are desired as well. The style of the Zune is actually quite similar to that of the iPod, given that it is slim and sleek with a scroll wheel used as the primary key of operation. Consumers are even given a choice of fashion; the Zune is available in five colors, including pink, red, black, brown, and white.

So what makes the Zune unique? For starters, consumers have the capability of taking advantage of the Zune wireless feature, where users can send files to and from each other with the simple press of a button. Whether it is the latest new music tune or a funny photo that will bring a few laughs, Zune to Zune wireless gives Microsoft’s media monster a bit of leverage over the iPod for this notable feature. Zune customers can also purchase either the Zune car pack, home audio/video pack, or travel pack to enhance their Zune experience. These media packs make it easy for users to charge their device and even connect it to some of their own home audio equipment. What also makes the Zune fascinating is that it comes with a built-in FM transmitter, a luxurious feature that Apple failed to integrate into the iPod. At a retail price of roughly $249.99, the Zune is a respectable competitor to Apple’s iPod, and it is available in most popular retail stores.
