Making and selling software

When it comes to making software you have to remember that if your going to selling it then you have to prove that your software is safe to use, now a very good way to do this is to allow say 100 people to have a free copy of your software and give you full reviews on your software after a short amount of time, and easy way to make sure they give you a review is to only allow the user to have a trial time and them have to fill out some form before they can carry on, also make sure you have some sort of error reporting script on your software so that you can get information on any bugs that might popup.

Now that was the easy part, the hard part is to make a software that people are going to want and actually use, remember there are lots of software products out there on the internet or market, so try and find something that hasn’t been done yet (hard) and something that’s going to be worth using, ie. Don’t make a clock as its been done and there are lots of them so no one will buy it, don’t try and take on other companies like Microsoft as you will not win and waste your time.

After you have done all of the above and you have come up with some good ideas, its time to start making the software, note that this is the part where you need to follow some standard rules, like placing any help taps ie. File, edit or view in the same place as they always are, don’t try and get fancy and place them at the bottom right or some where else as this will make people just hate your software right away, now also thing about speed, do you want to make a fancy looking software with lots of graphics and be slow, or a standard looking software that is nice and fast for the user!

All this is done now you need to market your software, this is the part where you would be best looking around our marketing section and taking it from there, or ask on our forums here.
